PMI Research and Education Conference 2010

Plan to Attend the R.E.P. Forum that Kicks off the PMI Research and Education Conference 2010
The PMI R.E.P. Forum, which will be held on 11 July 2010 in Washington, DC, USA, is an all-day event that kicks off the PMI 2010 Research and Education Conference and is open only to PMI R.E.P.s. You can earn seven PDUs for participating in it.
The R.E.P. Forum will begin with a presentation by Dr. Marc J. Rosenberg, an independent management consultant, educator and leading figure in the world of organizational learning, e-learning, knowledge management and performance improvement. Dr. Rosenberg, who has authored more than 50 articles and book chapters, is a frequently quoted expert in major business and trade publications. His presentation will focus on the challenges and advantages of e-learning.
The forum will then explore the instances of collaboration between Palatine Group, a PMI R.E.P., and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). It will provide you with an opportunity to discuss a project management training simulation that has resulted from their joint work.
Participation in the forum will enable you to make new business contacts with representatives from academic institutions interested in developing project management courses and programs and network with other R.E.P.s. Once you are registered for the forum, you will have access to the Meet Attendees feature of the conference website, which will enable you to learn more about other registrants, interact with them virtually and set up face-to-face meetings with them.
The networking reception at the end of the day will bring together the attendees of the R.E.P. Forum, the GAC Academic Forum and the Research and Education Conference, and will offer an opportunity to network with 500 attendees invested in project management research and education.

25 Attendees Participate in the R.E.P. Breakfast in Melbourne, Australia
An informative R.E.P. recognition breakfast was held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Center on 22 February 2010.
In the opening remarks Keith Rosenbaum, R.E.P. administrator, highlighted the active participation of R.E.P.s (currently over 250 Asia Pacific R.E.P.s) and informed attendees that PDU claims made in this region in 2009 represented 20% of the total of the Category 3 designation in our Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) system.
Attendees were then engaged by PMI President and CEO, Gregory Balestrero, who discussed the current global economic situation and held a question and answer session with the R.E.P. stakeholders in attendance.
Juergen Oschadleus, R.E.P. Advisory Group member, followed with an overview of the functions and roles of the advisory board.
The breakfast concluded with Mr. Rosenbaum providing additional tips and training on the new CCR system along with updates on the R.E.P. Marketing Portal and the upcoming R.E.P. Forum in July 2010.

Ways for R.E.P.s to Evaluate Their Training
If your goal is to measure participants? reactions to a training event (Kirkpatrick's Level 1), ask them immediately after the program. In addition, make sure to measure more than reactions to the overall program (e.g., Did you like the program?). Measure the participants? reactions to specific components of the program, such as instructor, topics, presentation style, schedule, audiovisuals used, etc.
Level 1 evaluations measure attitudes, usually through the use of a questionnaire based on a Likert five level rating scale. You should include closed-ended items (like these ratings) as well as open-ended items on your evaluations. For example, you could ask: What were the three most significant weaknesses of the program? What were the three most significant strengths of the program? It is important to learn the weaknesses, as well as the strengths, in order to improve a program.
When having participants fill out evaluations, it is best not to have them put their names on them because they are more likely to be honest in their answers if they are anonymous. This honesty will help you discover what content areas are missing and provide you with formative evaluation information that you can use to improve future versions of the training program.
