R.E.P. Breakfast in Denver Hosts 100 Attendees
R.E.P.s actively participated in the recognition breakfast held at the Colorado Convention Center. In opening remarks made by Keith Rosenbaum, R.E.P. Administrator, the 2008 program achievements were highlighted, including the naming of the 1000th Registered Education Provider, acknowledging a 15% increase in enrollment from the previous year, and emphasizing that close to 800,000 students had been trained by R.E.P.s. Attendees were then enthusiastically greeted by PMI President and CEO Gregory Balestrero who discussed PMI's organizational outreach to corporations and governments throughout the world. In addition, Dr. Edwin J. Andrews, Director of Academic and Educational Programs & Services for PMI, gave a well-received presentation entitled “Researching the Value and Economic Impact of Project Management”. Of specific relevance to the R.E.P.s, Dr. Andrews emphasized the following points: * Project management has value to organizations * There is a growing gap between project management skills and the number of project managers * Academia will need R.E.P.s to act as adjunct faculty * Corporations need R.E.P.s to focus more on professional development, especially leadership and soft skills * R.E.P.s represent a natural channel to work locally with components, academic institutions and local governments and associations to foster greater educational opportunities in project management The entire presentation of study results can be found on the R.E.P. Community Site. Furthermore, Betsy Redden from PMI Certification and John Zlockie from PMI Standards reviewed the upcoming changes that are expected with the updating of PMI standards at the end of the year. The breakfast concluded with the R.E.P. Advisory Group holding an informal discussion session during which they asked for suggestions that would serve the marketing needs of the R.E.P. community.
